Topics]CompetitionAuthor]

What a giveaway we have for you this week! We have three paperback copies of quite possibly the most beautifully designed web design book ever written (check out the screenshots below). It is called HTML & CSS – Design and Build Websites and has been written by Jon Duckett.

All you have to do for a chance of winning one of these books is leave a comment below telling us why you would like to win this book.

About the Book: HTML & CSS – Design and Build Websites

HTML & CSS - Design and Build Websites

Computer books often look rather like manuals. They can be dense and intimidating (they may even send you to sleep), but this book proves that they do not need to look like that.

HTML & CSS - Design and Build Websites

Each page of this book introdues a new topic in a simple, visual way with straightforward explanations accompanied by bite-sized code samples. At the end of each chapter there is an in-depth example that puts together the techniques it has covered. No previous experience is necessary.

HTML & CSS - Design and Build Websites

One of the key things that makes this book different from other titles is that it teaches the same subject with a completely new design approach. The full-color pages are packed with diagrams and photos that make the code easier to learn. Check some of them out:

You can also download a sample chapter here.

How to win these books

This competition will run for the next 7 days (ending on the 1st of March 2012) and all you have to do for a chance to win is leave a comment below telling us why you would like to win this book.

Winners will be selected completely at random and will be informed within a few days of the competition ending via email.

Good luck to everyone :)

I mostly design in print and cut and past code when I need to build sites which isn’t the best way to go about building sites. From the looks of the layout it looks easy to understand and follow which is key for those visual minded people. Thanks for sharing with the community guys.

I’ve been fascinated with websites since I was in my late teens, and I am finally taking the steps to build websites as a career. I’ve tried using some other books on HTML and CSS but they are usually pretty dry and lacking the imagery of this one offers. This book will serve me better in my quest to master the web and I’d love to get my hands on it.

    Hi,
I would like to win this book because I am a graphic/web designer that is still learning the tools of the trade such as CSS3 properties (media query, gradients, font face) and HTML5 markups as well.  I find literature to be great references and a vauleable asset to keep up to date in today’s designing world that is changing everyday.

  • http://www.facebook.com/jollywollyvintage Jolly Wolly

I would love to win a copy wish me luck!

  • Daniel Vitter

I’ve been a print designer for a long time, and I’ve just begun doing freelance work at night building WordPress-based sites. I typically use premium themes that others have built, and I frequently end up hacking into the CSS files to customize the theme a bit more for each of my client projects. I’ve been eye-balling this book for a week or so thinking it might help me tremendously in understanding exactly what it is I’m already fiddling with a little better. Plus, I’d love the opportunity to start building my own sites from scratch with very clean and simple html / css only. Cheers. And thanks for always having great contests like this. Such a value to the community at large.
    —Daniel

As a PhD candidate who also teaches HCI, I had my eyes on this book and had downloaded the sample pdf. HCI’s core concern is user learning and it is counter-intuitive and counterproductive to teach HCI using conventional books. This is a great example that proves even books can be redesigned in a way that is compatible with what we are teaching about good HCI practice.

I want I want!! I need a guidance. Ever since I’m such a quick and self-learner. Seriously regarding to website or design stuffs, I learned it by myself and it is not even thought in my university, although I’m taking Computer Science course. I found it’s very hard to search for an international book in my country. It was so sad though..

  • Deen

I have no idea to this day what those two Italian ladies were singing
about. Truth is, I don’t want to know. Some things are best left unsaid.
I’d like to think they were singing about something so beautiful, it
can’t be expressed in words, and makes your heart ache because of it. I
tell you, those voices soared higher and farther than anybody in a gray
place dares to dream. It was like some beautiful bird flapped into our
drab little cage and made those walls dissolve away, and for the
briefest of moments, every last man in Shawshank felt free.

    I went there.

This book is very relevant to my interests. This winter, I have graduated from the local community college with an A.A.S. in Web Design. My instruction concentrated on using WYSIWYG programs like Dreamweaver to do all the website building work. I thought that was fine and dandy, until I started reading through blogs and getting real-world website projects. Not knowing much HTML and CSS is showing me how much I really didn’t learn in college. I’ve been catching up since then, but this book could really help me catch up.
