Recent Playstation advertising has been described, by some circles, as being creative, effective and memorable. By others, down right controversial. In the beginning, the advertising for the original Playstation was reasonably conservative, and demonstrated with ease the product they were selling, without trying to shock or mind blow anyone. Nice and simple. With the arrival of the PS2, and perhaps realizing that the vast majority of the PS2 sales were for adults, the advertising took a downward turn into controversy that generally angered their targeted market. The trend has continued to a lesser extent with the PS3, were perhaps Sony took heed from the feedback of the PS2 advertising and toned down there aggressive and controversial style of advertising. After all, it is just a gaming console.
The Vespa, with its typically Italian elegant design, is a timeless design icon. For over sixty years now, Vespa has been building many models of its low running cost scooter using the same design basis as its original. They know it, we know it, Vespas look cool and are cool.
Guinness, the world famous dry Irish stout, owes its fame not only to its distinctive taste, nor to its simple, old fashioned black-and-white logo, but to its modern, creative, humorous and almost always surreal advertising. The World Wide Fund for Nature, or the WWF, is best known for tackling issues such as conservation, restoration of the environment and research, and what a great job it does. It is not, however, as well known for its creative advertising.
