Using illustration in web design gives the designer the opportunity to convey there own personal and unique style, and be able to say "this site is mine, and look what I can do". Very few web design styles give an artist this opportunity.
Illustration and typography are not typically associated with each other, they each evoke a strong and separate visual statement in relation to there own style. Can this type (as a figure of speech) of illustration be regarded as illustration? Or, on the flip side, can the art of typography, mixed in with illustration be regarded as typography? If you are an illustrator or a typographer you will probably each have your own opinion. For us, its a match made in heaven. The combination of the two design styles creates something unique, it demonstrates that art has no boundaries, and ultimately will create something beautiful.
Digital light painting is the technique that can turn a dull image into an amazing and vibrant work of art that conveys a sense of movement and energy. This effect nearly always works well on subjects that are stationary or static but can be very difficult to produce on animated subjects such as people. It does take a very skilled hand to digitally paint a person with light, this is were Tony Ariawan comes in and excels.
Visual illustrators, in the past, were never ever mentioned in the same breath as traditional or fine artists, and they have consistently came second best in comparison with traditional graphic designers. Recent Playstation advertising has been described, by some circles, as being creative, effective and memorable. By others, down right controversial. In the beginning, the advertising for the original Playstation was reasonably conservative, and demonstrated with ease the product they were selling, without trying to shock or mind blow anyone. Nice and simple. With the arrival of the PS2, and perhaps realizing that the vast majority of the PS2 sales were for adults, the advertising took a downward turn into controversy that generally angered their targeted market. The trend has continued to a lesser extent with the PS3, were perhaps Sony took heed from the feedback of the PS2 advertising and toned down there aggressive and controversial style of advertising. After all, it is just a gaming console.
