    great post !

  • Hansonp39

You guys have no clue what you are doing. I have seen better post’s from a 3 year old. I wouldn’t use any of these and none of them are inspireing at all!!!

  • DAE

    @Hansonp39 — I agree. Didn’t see anything worth writing about…

  • aria

all of you people who claim that this is not a good example, would you be so kind to point out the flaws so that us who are still learning won’t make the same mistakes?
    thank you in advance :)

  • Letphill

    what an eye opener

  • No

You know, people like you two that come along to someone’s post to crap on it are about as welcome as a serious dose of pubic warts.  Post something you consider awesome then.  No?  didn’t think so.  Go back to laying out your community newsletters for nursing homes.

  • Erik,
Thanks for sharing your flyer link.  Interesting stuff.

  • I love the typography on the Daniel Scrivner piece! Lots of
great flyer and layout ideas here. Thanks for posting a great list!

    Nice design…

  • Pusn_2

I totally agree with you, that’s the best one!

  • who are you? What type of comment is that?  These are examples of original typography. There’s different styles, some better than others. But how can you diss this post by saying something as uninspired as what you said. Explain your point. Or maybe you don’t understand art and think that videogames are the only type of art form(!) that exists. Go read about Bauhaus and Fluxus !!!

“FATAL Typography Flaws”? Who are you? The ER Nurse? For god’s sake this is ART. There is no such thing as a “FLAW” insofar as art and its many forms. Art is itself meant to work around flaws left by the carefully crafted perfection of order. My God who lets people like you loose on such nice forums. Go get a life.

It’s like being allowed to have a baby, some people should not.  Some people should be allowed to post, others not so much.

  • Mjpgraphic

Great point Joe, some people do not understand the difference between art and design.

  • Fj

was looking for somethign inspiring and saw none…. pretty standard & boring if anything

  • Carrolli

That’s why some of you don’t go far in life especially when you make nonsense of other people’s effort.  How can you put down this work in such a manner.  It’s one thing to not like his effort but to compare his work to that of a 3year old is rather insulting.  I wish you had directed us to your website that is packed with your own inspiring work of art then I would have had just little to say.  If you don’t have anything better to do with your time then go let that 3 year old teach you how to be grown.  (Next time ask someone how “inspiring” is spelled so you dont make such a blunder.  “Inspireing” indeed.

I can’t help but think your reply was condescending, and mean-spirited.  Honestly, I can’t say that other than a few examples (i.e.  the “69” quotation marks in the Scandinavian pull quote, the “Taos” layout, and the Beauty Bound layout) were that jaw dropping.  I have to agree that any of them appeared very run of the mill, and not very far away from what could be a standard layout to any magazine.  Moreoften I was attracted to the illustrations, rather than the layout.  Not that I’m knocking the designers, they’re all very soundly designed, but perhaps not what I would consider “Britches-Shitting-Inspirational.”

As for making personal attacks on Hanson…or anyone for that matter, whether his or her post was articulated to your standards or not, EVERYONE is entitled to their opinion, and making personal attacks and assumptions on your part comes across as extremely immature and pretentious.  If they “don’t understand art, and think videogames are the only type of art form” then why would they even bother to visit this post about layouts in the first place?

    Just sayin’.

  • the 15 year old

-.- ppl who fight online are dumb. i agree everyone is entitled to their own opinion but i also think criticising something un-productively is just stupid. i don’t understand being mean without provocation or point. if you don’t like it then don’t comment and go find something that will make you happy. cheesy but true ok? eeesh. and to think the people comment are most likely older than me…no wonder the world is so screwed up and going nowhere with adults who bicker over stupidities instead of fighting for human life and productively work towards general happiness for all in life. and you are fighting over whether a picture makes you think about something you like or not or that you find it boring or not. how un-productive and immature.so again i repeat, ppl who fight online are dumb because they change nothing. if you don’t like something change it or leave. it’s that simple. no need to agravate others on your way out, it would only make you seem like more of an idiot. and if you decided you want to change it, well find a way to do you best and be happy. honestly. if a 15 year old understands this why can’t you?

  • Youfail

You sir, fail. There is a huge difference in design and art. Art is freefrom. Design is for representation, clients, getting the message out. Go to school.

  • Kantkieser

    yup. mediocre, at best

  • $23820694

hahaha, i must agree.  But you don’t have to be a meanie lol

  • MPW
