When compared to last year’s icon design trends, not much has changed really. Year-on-year, icon trends have always evolved, but not this year. Flat design, iOS line-styled icons and Material Design continue to inspire heavily this year’s icon trends. SVG has continued to rise in popularity, as have icon sets created with Sketch.app.
One major difference has been the decrease in popularity of icon fonts. There has been a lot of discussion about them in the design community over the past month or so, especially from Tyler Sticka (Seriously, Don’t Use Icon Fonts) and Ben Frain (Seriously, Use Icon Fonts), we’ll let you decide whether or not you choose to use them.
We have also only included those larger, more complete sets. Some even have as many as 400 different icons! Most of the sets are available in either PSD, AI, EPS, SVG or Sketch formats, but there are also a few, as mentioned, icon fonts and some pure CSS sets as well.
