Common Myths About WordPress.com
- Myth 1: WordPress.com Doesn’t Support Plugins or Custom Themes:
This is no longer true. Personal, Premium, Business, and Commerce plans support third-party plugins and uploaded theme files. Business and Commerce add more advanced hosting and development controls, but a Business plan is no longer required simply to install a plugin. - Myth 2: WordPress.com Is Just for Bloggers:

WordPress.com Commerce combines managed WordPress hosting with WooCommerce and a collection of store tools. It includes everything from Business, with WooCommerce installed automatically and additional extensions for selling and managing products.

WordPress.com and AI
WordPress.com now has a broad set of AI tools. Its AI Website Builder can create a new site from a written description, including pages, layouts, text, and images. The WordPress Agent can then help edit content and design from inside the editor.
There is also MCP support. This allows external AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, and Gemini to connect to a WordPress.com account and work with sites, posts, comments, media, and settings. MCP access is available on all paid plans.

What We Like and Don’t Like
What we like: Managed WordPress hosting, plugin and custom theme support on paid plans, caching, security, backups, staging and developer tools on suitable plans, strong WooCommerce support, and a growing set of useful AI tools.
What we don’t like: Advanced developer tools require Business or Commerce, there is less server control than cloud or VPS hosting, and the differences between WordPress.com plans can take some time to understand.
Who Is WordPress.com Best For?
WordPress.com works for a wider range of sites than its old reputation suggests. Personal and Premium cover blogs and smaller sites, while Business provides managed WordPress hosting with the tools needed for professional development. Commerce adds a strong WooCommerce package for online stores.
It is a good choice when reducing server maintenance matters more than having complete control over the hosting environment. Developers who need root access or custom server configurations will still be better served by a VPS or cloud server.
