Twitter is the number 1 in the war of the microblogging apps, does it deserve its place there? Maybe. What about the others? Do you remember Tumblr?

Tumblr is still there and still making it easy to share text, photos, URLs, music, and video clips. And just like Twitter you can post a tumblelog from your browser, phone, desktop or via email.

Customization of your Twitter homepage is limited, changing the background and styling the links is about all you will get. With Tumblr, there is a lot more, you can create a sophisticated and unique theme very easily, all you need is a basic knowledge of CSS, and you are good to go… or you can download a theme.

Update:I’ve updated the themes below with some fresh new links! Many of the themes from 2 years ago have now been deleted or moved, and authors aren’t supporting updates. Not only this but I’ve also found new themes from 2010 and 2011 to add. All of the links below are fresh as of April 28, 2011 and offer both install links and demo pages. Ya, people never seem to understand that any website can look absolutely awesome, as long as they give you the ability too. Hopefully the sex appeal of these awesome themes will get people to take a look at Tumblr and how central and easy of a process they’ve made having a sick “blog” online.

These themes are hardly amazing, just the same bs posted on Tumblr site. Themes are also pretty pointless unless you are some leet coder, because most of them have lots of bugs. :(

So many people moan about themes. If you’re that bored of the Themes given why not just customise them, the customise HTML tool is pretty good and really not very taxing, there’s really not much point in paying for themes anymore. (without meaning to rob tumblr of funding)
