Showcase of HTML5-Powered Sites

HTML5 brings clear improvements to the web today, the World Wide Web Consortium, W3C, specifically stresses that HTML5 is still in testing stages, and is scheduled to reach “Recommendation” stage (i.e. “release”), in 2014. Despite this, many developers have taken advantage of HTML5, as we’re about to see.

HTML5 brings a slew of new features any web designer should be excited over. First and foremost, HTML5 brings new media features and elements such as video, audio, canvas, making it easier to integrate media components into websites without using proprietary software (e.g. Flash, Javascript). For more about HTML5, check out the official W3C site, and a great explanation on many of the new HTML5 features on NetTuts.

Nice sites, and nice list. Kind of a bummer when looking at their source(s), though. HTML 5 is present (almost entirely as just header/section/footer tags), but it’s all padded with plenty of XHTML to make it work. One of the reasons why I just don’t deploy with HTML5 yet. I guess the question is…is the level of semantics you get with a dash of HTML5 so great that the div overload you use to make it work in not-so-new browsers not a detriment to said semantics?

Hello. Here’s one more great example of HTML5 implementation. The HTML5-based application is available both in “pure HTML” version (http://demo.enterra-poker.com/html5/index.html) and a Phonegap build for iPhone (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/enterra-poker/id492214596).

What do you think about it?
