CS6 and the new Creative Cloud

After making us go through a maze of previews and sneak peeks, Adobe has finally detailed its pricing plans regarding the Creative Suite 6.

CS consists of multiple applications, including the likes of Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and several others.

The CS6 Standard package will cost $1299 whereas the Master Collection comes in at a monumental $2599. You can, as per usual, opt to buy individual products, such as Photoshop CS6 for $699, and so on.

However, if paying such big amounts in one shot is not something that interests you, Adobe has also introduced its own subscription service, called Creative Cloud.

Creative Cloud is a service that offers users a plethora of features, including:

• Website hosting
• 20 GB of storage space
• All the bells and whistles of the Creative Suite 6 package

The subscription fee for Creative Cloud will work out at $49.99 per month, if you pay for a full year in advance. If you do choose to pay the fees on a month-to-month basis, the cost rises to $74.99 per month.

If you are an existing user of an earlier version of the Creative Suite, you can make use of the promotional upgrade offer and get Creative Cloud at a discounted rate of $29.99 per month (if paying for one year).

Similarly, you are also entitled to a discount of $20 per month if you are student or a teacher.

Over to you, what do you think of this new pricing structure?

It’s time for some competition in the creative software market.

I agree entirely, many freelancing individuals like myself don’t have the cash to upgrade their software every 2-3 years and especially for $2500 and $75 a month isn’t exactly affordable either. It is a good start, but I don’t need storage or hosting from Adobe due to applications such as Dropbox and 3rd Party hosting services being much more affordable and or free. They should offer the Creative Cloud software only bundle for 35-40 dollars a month and it would be more realistic of a service.

When I found I that I’d have to drop $749 to upgrade from CS5 premium, I was NOT happy.  Adobe is really hurting their chances with longtime customers.

Oddly enough, if you “upgrade” to CS5.5 for $399 before the CS6 launch date, you get the upgrade to CS6 for free.

I think they have sealed their fate with this one. It’s double the cost almost. It’s too tough a sell in this market.

Absolutely agreed with Derek, I don’t think anyone need that storage when he could use free of cost the same service. Anyway nice post, thanks for sharing

Apart from Photoshop and Illustrator, the update is fairly meager… Dreamweaver and Fireworks only get a tiny handfull of new options… And the interfaces of all the applications is a real mess… we have black interfaces, the ‘old’ silver interfaces, still inconsistens naming etc.

I really wished there was some good competition for Adobe… How can they charge such a huge amount of money for an upgrade?

I don’t think these upgrades are all that out of line cost wise. If you’re successful you have nothing to bitch about.

30 bucks a month for a year. That’s a helluva bargain. It includes 5 websites, a font app, every product Adobe has, and 20 gigabytes of online storage available anywhere. I’m signed up, and am pleased since all I was going to get was the $200 upgrade to Dreamweaver. The Smartphone and Tablet workflows are indispensable to keeping up with new work and technology. It is too bad that Adobe has no competition, but Photohop hasn’t had competition for over 15 years. If you’re in the business, it’s a must have.
