16th Annual Webby Awards – The Winners

Dubbed as the Academy Awards of the internet, the 16th annual Webby Awards were announced recently.

The Webby Awards honor online performers in four different categories: Websites, interactive advertising, online film & video and mobile apps. Again, each category is split into two prizes – The Webby Awards themselves (judged by the International Academy of Arts and Sciences) and The Webby People’s Voice Awards (online voting system).

Webby Awards

Speaking of first time winners for this year, we have the rather expected star cast of Pinterest, Spotify and Google+.

Further more, Facebook grabbed The People’s Special Achievement Award (for social change), whereas Instagram secured The Webby Breakout of the Year (perhaps owing to its billion dollar acquisition by FB).

Thereafter, awards such as Best Business Blog went to Mashable and Best Politics Blog went to FiveThirtyEight.

Some more noteworthy winners included TED for best videos/podcasts, The Daily Beast for news and Evernote for best utilities and services.

You should check out the full list of winners for each category (and the nominees), click here. Also, related videos can be found here.

What’s your take on the Webby Awards? Expected winners, or did any of the names shock you? Feel free to share your thoughts!
